"Ludwigsburg wimmelt" highlights the city of Ludwigsburg, Germany. It is a story with many hidden pictures, funny dachshunds and pugs, some flying through the air, real Ludwigsburger, and a whole lot of history and Ludwigsburger culture bundled into one fun search-and-find activity book.

For this project, I held a contest for entrants to appear on the cover. Three winners – two families and a single woman – were chosen, and the over 400 other Ludwigsburg residents that submitted an entry and completed their registration appear inside my book. My largest group of real entrants was a semi-professional choir.

In German, this genre of books is called a "Wimmelbuch" - a book teeming with information and images. There are seven double page spreads, plus the front and back cover, featuring special places and events in Ludwigsburg. One, pictured below, is the Horse Market or "Pferdemarkt" where its first-ever dachshund race took place in 2019. I featured regional delicacies and fun activities for families and included local points of interest particular to Ludwigsburg. A special highlight for me was to interpret Luise, the largest piggy bank in the world - located at the Sparkasse in Ludwigsburg.

This was my fourth picture book from Silberburg-Verlag. The others are:
"Heidelberg wimmelt"
"Mannheim wimmelt"
"Heilbronn wimmelt" (long listed for the AOI's World Illustration Award)
"Schwaben wimmelt" (appearing March 2022)
And number six is in the works.
